The Beauty of the Irrational (Video of Ryan Sandes)

The Beauty of the Irrational from The African Attachment on Vimeo.

A gorgeous video of South African runner Ryan Sandes succeeding at a new speed record on the 84km Fish River Canyon trail (6 hr 57 min!). The HD is amazing, so be sure to blow up the screen size.

Irrational, indeed. And beautiful!

Salomon (Sande's sponsor) had quite a weekend at the Pikes Peak Marathon too, with Kilian Jornet taking the win and Emelie Forsberg, Kasie Enman, and Mireia Miro sweeping the Women's podium. Salomon racer Thomas Lorblanchet also picked up a win at the Leadville 100. iRunFar has interviews with Kilian, Thomas, and more.

  1. I saw a switchback get cut.

I suppose he wouldn't be a Salomon runner with a funny accent if he didn't.

  2. Yeah, I noticed that too. But on solo FKTs anything goes. Fantastic video - starkly beautiful, or as they say in SA, "Stunning!" Thanks for posting this, Scott.

  3. I got to meet Killian, Emelie, and Miriela at Pike's this weekend. Beauty of the out-and-back course is that I actually got to see them(very briefly!) as they flew by me on the way back. And all of them as friendly as they are talented.
Also, another Salomon runner, Thomas Lorblanchet, won a little trail race they had in Leadville the same weekend.

    1. Good point, Terry! I'll add Thomas' win above and link to some interviews. That's cool you got to meet them all.

  4. Thanks for sharing this video. Really enjoyed it. Jim
