Ultrarunners In The News

Some ultra stories that you might find interesting:

1) Kevin Sullivan, who placed 2nd at the Vermont 100-miler in his first 100m event (16:15), is interviewed by his local Andover, MA newspaper here. You can also read reports from Inov-8 Team members Andy Jones-Wilkins and Devon Crosby-Helms about their respective wins at the Vermont 100.

2) Danny Abshire, co-founder of Newton Shoes, tells Inc Magazine about how his experience at the Leadville 100 helped prompt him to start a shoe company from scratch (even though he wasn't in the biz).

3) Seattle's Van Phan has a nice blurb and pic in the Seattle Times.

4) Karl Meltzer talks about preparing for his speed record attempt on the 2,174 mile Appalachian Trail.

5) Peter Lubbers and Catherine Sullivan take on the 12 Hours of Cool.

I'm doing more reading than running these days, much in thanks to an abscess on my hip that is requiring some down time. Should be in good shape by start time for Where's Waldo.

  1. BTW, new Western States application process is now posted. It starts with an e-mail that goes out on Sept 15th, so be sure and send a note to Greg Soderlund to verify your e-mail address. If you don't claim your spot by Sept 30th, it is up for grabs!

  2. I can't say that the writer at the Seattle Times for Van was "nice" but kind of...sarcastic. But then again, it could just be that author's writing style. The photographer did take a really good photo of Van though.

  4. Hey,
Run the Golden Gate to Beat Childhood Cancer. I just signed up to be a St. Jude Hero for the upcoming US Half Marathon on November 2, 2008. When you run or walk as a St. Jude Hero in the US Half Marathon, you inspire hope in children fighting cancer and other catastrophic illnesses. By raising money as a St. Jude Hero, you will support the life saving research and treatment conducted daily at St. Jude. All fundraising efforts are heroic, so there is no fundraising minimum required for participating in the program. Plus, when you sign up, you also receive free online training from Active.com and multiple other incentives. visit www.stjudeheroes.org for more information
