Dean Karnazes Braves the SF Protesters to Carry The Olympic Torch

Dean Karnazes was part of the Beijing Olympic torch run in San Francisco yesterday, just days after winning the Atacama Crossing desert race in Chile. The number of China/Tibet protesters was so large, that city officials changed the course at the last minute for safety reasons. It was a huge controversy.

Then again, Dean is probably used to a little controversy by now. ;-) Be sure to read his comments about why he ran., and the blog comments that followed. A fascinating and polar discussion.

On a side note, I was tagged by PinkCorker (thanks!) to come up with a six word memoir and link to five more bloggers. The rules are:

1) Write your own six word memoir
2) Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you want
3) Link to the person that tagged you in your post, and to the original post if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere
4) Tag at least five more blogs with links
5) Leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play!

Here's my six word memoir:

Live life to have good stories.

Why? Because life should be epic! Be adventurous in life, love, work, family, friends, and your community and the rewards will amaze you. After you are long gone, this is how you will be remembered.

  1. Your memoir reminds me of something I used to say to buddies in high school when we were considering doing something unwise, "Life is just a story to tell your grandchildren."

  2. Dude, thanks for tagging me. Catherine (Sierra Nevada) actually tagged me just before you, but it is a special honor to be tagged by you. Your own memoir/motto is very cool, right on target. I will refrain from choosing "Run--get in Scott's blog often."

  3. DK will never pass up a chance to be on stage. Too bad they could not get one of the champions of ultra running to do it. DK is true the patron saint of publicity stunts. It's amazing that even in the ultra world the media can dictate so much of our perception.

  4. Mark, I'm pretty sure now you have to write a 12 word memoir. In fact, I'll tag you too, make it 18 words. Just kidding.
Scott, see you tomorrow, looks like it will be good heat training for y'all training for States!

  5. Scott,
Your memoir reminds me of something that Jim Morrison said "Did you have a good life when you died, enough to base a movie on..." It was something like that. So what kind of movie would you like your life to be?

  6. Okay, finally posted my memoir. Actually did it last week, but forgot to tell you since was in a hurry to pack and go to Tahoe (where I pretty much lacked internet access for a week). Added 2 more as bonus since I'm 3 1/2 months late. Enjoy.

I LIVE for comments! Please add your thoughts, let me know you stopped by, etc., and be thoughtful of others. Always best if you sign your name, of course.
